SEIKO Signs Leading Soccer Icon Landon Donovan as US Brand Ambassador
Donovan to Represent 2011 SEIKO Watch Collection as First Ever Athlete Spokesperson
Mahwah, NJ (March 21, 2011) – SEIKO Corporation of America is pleased to announce the appointment of US soccer icon Landon Donovan as the world-renowned watchmaker’s new Brand Ambassador.
Proudly sharing SEIKO’s dedication to perfection and success, Donovan is best known for his game-winning, last minute goal for the United States National Team against Algeria in the 2010 World Cup, making Donovan not only a star athlete but a national hero as well. Donovan will help SEIKO celebrate its 130th Anniversary by representing the powerful new Sportura Collection, which will surpass the desires of athletes and the expectations of watch aficionados worldwide
“I always have looked for a watch that keeps up with my active lifestyle, which is why I like the comfort, innovation and design of the SEIKO Sportura Collection,” said Donovan, who is represented by Wasserman Media Group. “I am honored to be the first athlete to join the SEIKO family as a Brand Ambassador, and anticipate celebrating their dedication to perfection and launch of the new, dynamic timepieces that will once again demonstrate that SEIKO is the revolutionary front runner in watchmaking worldwide.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Landon Donovan to the SEIKO team as Brand Ambassador for our new Sportura Collection that expresses the true dynamic spirit of our brand, while helping us celebrate SEIKO’s 130th Anniversary this year,” says Mr. Ken Hagiwara, President and CEO of SEIKO Corporation of America. “Synonymous with the essence of SEIKO, Mr. Donovan shows a dedication to perfection and success that we commend. We look forward to working with him.”
A competitive soccer player since the age of five, Donovan is the Captain of the Los Angeles Galaxy Major League Soccer team and the all-time leader in scoring and assists for the U.S. National Team. Donovan also has the most caps (international appearances) of all active US players, he is a four-time winner of the U.S. Soccer “Male Athlete of the Year” award and a six-time recipient of the “Honda Player of the Year” award. During the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Donovan was the driving force behind the U.S. winning their group for the first time since 1930. Donovan is involved with many charitable initiatives including the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and he is an active supporter of the Wild Soccer Bunch, a series of educational books for young children.
