JADA PINKETT - ESSENCE MAGAZINE COVERS
Jada Pinkett just raised the bar on our BLACK BEAUTY! Ladies sending the Message we all need to embrace our beautiful bodies! We need to embrace our beautiful tanned skin, and embrace the pride in being a women of color! This shoot was personal for Jada she was sending a direct message to her daughter “Lay your eyes on the beauty of black women! That’s the statement. The black woman is very spiritual. She is the ultimate mother, the ultimate of everything. We connect to all things. Lay your eyes on that.” Jada gave the insight to a global problem many women of color have, and often face in silence! She went deeper into the flaws “We, as women, have to love ourselves. Whatever you look like, you better be comfortable with it. … All my life black men have told me how flawed I am. People may look at that picture and not necessarily be able to identify my woes about my own body, but I have them. It’s just that I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, ‘This is me’ and I embrace that. I’m getting older. I’ve got wrinkles in my face that I didn’t before, but it’s my face!” The issue for Essence is the June/July issue. This is definitely a must have and collectors issue! Jada has said somethings many Black women need to hear, and start to embrace!

Geneva: Greetings how are you doing today?
Jeb Bush: I AM DOING FINE, EXCITED I JUST DROPPED MY NEW MIXTAPE TITLED "DA FREESTYLE FILES" MAY 31ST BUT WE WILL GET INTO THAT MORE IN THE INTERVIEW BUT OTHERWISE I'M GOOD.
Geneva: For those who may not know you, can you please tell them why they should?
Jeb Bush: WELL YOU SHOULD KNOW ME BECAUSE OF MY STAGE NAME IF YOU LIVE IN OR ARE FROM FLORIDA BUT I AM THE NEW GENERATION OF HIP HOP.
Geneva: Now Jeb Bush is your stage name how did that name come about?
Jeb Bush: WELL IT ORIGINATED FROM A RAP LINE I SAID IN 2007 "I'M FROM A STATE WHERE THE CRACK GET PUSHED/SO FUCK A RAP NAME START CALLING ME JEB BUSH." AND THUS AFTER THAT I CHANGED MY STAGE NAME FROM DA FRANCHIZE TO JEB BUSH .
Geneva: At the age of 13 rapping was just a hobby, what was the turning point for you? What made want to pursue music as a career?
Jeb Bush: WELL AFTER BATTLING PEOPLE AND JUST WRITING MUSIC IT WAS PLENTY OF LOCAL LABELS, PRODUCERS, ETC WHO WANTED TO SIGN ME OR WORK WITH ME. BUT I GOT OFFERED A RECORD DEAL WITH RAW CUT RECORDS IN DETRIOT MICHIGAN. AND THAT REALLY GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE TO SAY YEA I WANT TO DO MUSIC FOR REAL.
Geneva: You were with Raw Cut Records, and you decided not to renew your contract. What was your plan after that meaning what did Jeb Bush want?
Jeb Bush: WELL WE TALKED ABOUT IT FOR A FEW MONTHS THE MONEY WAS GOOD AS WELL BUT I WANTED TO TAKE A BREAK HONESTLY. IT WAS SO MUCH ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY I KNEW 3 YEARS LATER THEN I KNEW WHEN I FIRST STARTED YA KNOW GOOD & BAD. AND I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I'M NOT A INDUSTRY TYPE OF GUY I'M NOT IN THAT CROWD I WILL NEVER GO COMMERCIAL LIKE THAT.
Geneva: Now you have a mixtape your working on can you tell us about it?
Jeb Bush: WELL I'M ACTUALLY WORKING ON 3 MIXTAPES IN 3 MONTHS (MAY JUNE & JULY) AND 1 I JUST RELEASED MAY 31ST IS TITLED "DA FREESTYLE FILES" HOSTED BY DJ KID GARIN WHICH FEATURES MY STREET SINGLE "IM A TRAPPA" WHICH HAS GOTTEN A LOT OF BUZZ IN THE STREETS, THE CLUB, AND INTERNET/COLLEGE/MAINSTREAM RADIO. I HAD TO PUSH MY SINGLE BACK A MONTH LOL SO I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT BECAUSE AFTER TAKING A 2 YR BREAK FROM 08 TO 10 I NEEDED THIS COMEBACK BUT JUST WORKING ON THE NEXT 2 MIXTAPES I'M HYPE.
Geneva: All Magnum No Lifestyle "The Pretape" how did this come about?
Jeb Bush: WELL BASICALLY THAT'S A SAMPLE I THREW TOGETHER IN ABOUT A WEEK MOST OF IT IS NO PEN FREESTYLES, IT WAS JUST TIME TO MAKE A COMEBACK FROM MY BREAK AND JUST GIVE THE STREETS A TASTE OF ME BECAUSE PEOPLE KNOW I RAP BUT THEY JUST NEEDED PROOF OF THAT BECAUSE I'M NOT A CAREER ARTIST BUT I HAD FUN I REALLY ENJOYED THAT PROJECT.
Geneva: What can people expect from you, what do you bring to the music game no other artist offers?
Jeb Bush: HONESTLY I BRING REALNESS,LYRICS, AND SWAGGA YA KNOW THAT KIND OF STUFF IS IMPORTANT IN HIP HOP. LIKE I'M FROM FORT MYERS THAT'S WHERE PLIES & FRANK LINI ARE FROM SO A LOT OF ARTIST IN THE CITY COPY THEM. AND TALK ABOUT HOW REAL THEY ARE, THE GUNS THEY SHOOT, THE DOPE THEY SELL WHEN IT'S JUST UNTRUE LIKE I'M REAL INSIDE AND OUT THE BOOTH I DON'T HAVE TO LIE TO GAIN FANS IT'S DONE WITH MY MUSIC.
Geneva: What advice would give based off your experience, what would you tell artist that many others wouldn't advices them on?
Jeb Bush: MUSIC IS A BUSINESS LEARN THE BUSINESS WHEN I WAS SIGNED I LEARNED THE BUSINESS AND THAT HELPED ME IN THE LONG RUN WHEN I MADE MY ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY WITH MY BROTHER & FRIEND BUT ALSO IT'S OK TO FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS BUT YOU HAVE TO WALK IN REALITY.
Geneva: Who do you inspire to work with in the future?
Jeb Bush: I THINK I WANT TO WORK WITH MOSTLY PRODUCERS LIKE SWIZZ BEATZ, MANNIE FRESH, DJ TOOMP, YEA I'M BIG ON PRODUCTION IF A ARTIST HAS GOOD PRODUCTION THEN THAT MAKES IS JOB EASIER.
Geneva: When it comes to music what direction do you think it's headed?
Jeb Bush: WHEREVER THE STREETS PUT ME, IF I GET SIGNED I GET SIGNED IF NOT I'M STILL DOING MUSIC BECAUSE I TELL PEOPLE ALL THE TIME I'M NOT TRYING TO BE FAMOUS OR ANYTHING I CAN GO STREET PLATINUM WITHOUT A RECORD BEING SOLD IN STORE YA KNOW THAT'S WHAT IT'S ABOUT FOR ME THE STREETS, THE FANS, AND THE MUSIC.
Geneva: What do you think makes a great artist, what elements does an artist need to have longevity?
Jeb Bush: LYRICS, CREATIVITY, CONSISTENCY AND REINVENTION LOOK AT GUYS LIKE LL COOL J, P DIDDY, JAY-Z, LIL WAYNE, T.I., THOSE GUYS ARE ALWAYS USING THOSE ELEMENTS TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL AND IT WORKS LOL.
Geneva: Where do you see yourself in say ten years from now?
Jeb Bush: LETS SEE, DOING SOMETHING IN MUSIC, I WANT TO STEP INTO MGMT I THINK, HAVING A CLOTHING LINE, I ALSO ACT SO I WANT TO WRITE AND STAR IN SOME MOVES, YA KNOW I HAVE A BUNCH OF VENTURES I WOULD LIKE TO DO BUT MUSIC IS MY PASSION SO THAT'S THE END OF THE ROAD IT'S WHAT I WILL LEAVE WITH.
Geneva: What does Jeb do to relax after a long day in the studio?
Jeb Bush: LONG DAY? MORE LIKE LONG WEEK WITH THESE PROJECTS, COLLBO'S, ETC ETC I'M IN THE STUDIO ABOUT 3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK BUT I LOVE MOVIES I'M A BIG MOVIE FREAK, SO JUST HOME WATCHING MOVIES, OR WRITING MUSIC AND EATING OMG I LOVE TO EAT LOL SO I LIKE GOING OUT TO EAT.
Geneva: When it comes to music is there any limits?
Jeb Bush: NO I DON'T THINK SO I'M VERY OPEN TO DIFF CONCEPTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.
Geneva: If there was one thing you could change about the industry what would it be and why?
Jeb Bush: NO I WOULDN'T IT IS WHAT IT IS AND SOME PEOPLE GET IN IT BECAUSE OF CERTAIN THINGS. WHATEVER IT MAY BE BUT IT COMES WITH THE TERRITORY PRETTY MUCH SO I JUST ACCEPT THE GOOD WITH THE BAD.
Geneva: If you could collaborate with any artist, producer from the past or present who would it be and why?
Jeb Bush: I THINK MUSIC WISE, I WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH LL COOL J, LIL WAYNE, YOUNG JEEZY, WEEBIE, TRICK DADDY. I'M BIG ON SOUTHERN ARTIST AND THEIR SOUND YOU DON'T HAVE TO SELL 1 MILLION RECORDS FOR THE STREETS TO LIKE YOU. AS A ARTIST IT'S ALOT OF PEOPLE I RESPECT FOR NOT SELLING OUT OR GOING COMMERCIAL AND THOSE ARE GUYS I WANT TO WORK WITH.
Geneva: As an artist what do you want your fans to understand about you?
Jeb Bush: I AM SO MISUNDERSTOOD SO YOU CAN'T UNDERSTAND LOL ESPECIALLY WITH MY FEMALE FANS BECAUSE I INTERACT WITH ALOT OF MY FANS VIA MYSPACE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, AND EVEN TEXT MESSAGING. IT'S CRAZY BUT I HOPE WHEN THEY HEAR MY MUSIC THEY HEAR A ORIGINAL SOUND AND NOT SOME CLONED ARTIST YA KNOW. UNDERSTAND THAT I AM MY OWN PERSON AS ARTIST I'M NOT DRAKE, LIL WAYNE, JAY Z ETC ETC.
Geneva: If you could describe yourself in one word or phrase what would it be and why?
Jeb Bush: *ALL MAGNUM NO LIFESTYLES* I KNOW IT'S NOT 1 WORD BUT THAT'S MY CATCH PHRASE I USE ON MY RECORDS, ONLINE, WHEN I TALK, ETC IT'S JUST MEANS LIKE I'M MAJOR/BIG HENCE MAGNUM AND Y'ALL MINOR/SMALL HENCE LIFESTYLES LOL SO YEA I HAVE SO MANY THINGS I MAKE UP IT'S CRAZY LOL!
Geneva: What do you think the biggest mistake upcoming artist make in the industry?
Jeb Bush: NOT KNOWING THE BUSINESS SIDE OF IT, THE BUSINESS IS TO SELL RECORDS, YOU CAN RAP LIKE JAY- Z, LIL WAYNE, AND DRAKE COMBINED WHO CARES, SPECIALLY IF YOU CAN'T SELL RECORDS OR MAKE A HIT RECORDS A LOT OF UPCOMING ARTIST AREN'T MAKING GOOD MUSIC THAT'S WHY THE STREETS DON'T FUCK WITH NEW ARTIST WHO HAVE MAJOR DEALS. IT'S NOT THAT THEIR NEW IT'S JUST NOT HOT INDIE ARTIST ARE KILLING MAJOR ARTIST HANDS DOWN!
Geneva: When it comes to dating is it easier inside or outside the industry?
Jeb Bush: INSIDE!!! I ALWAYS TELL PEOPLE I NEED TO DATE A RADIO HOST, A MODEL, OR A VIDEO VIXEN ETC ETC BECAUSE THEY UNDERSTAND THE PASSION AND ALOT OF PEOPLE REALLY DON'T, MORE SO THE FEMALE THEN MALES BUT IT'S HARD DATING OUTSIDE BECAUSE THEY THINK YOU GOT GROUPIES, YOU NOT GONNA GET SIGNED, ETC ETC SO YEAH IT'S HARD I BE ABOUT IT GIVE UP ON LOVE I SWEAR I TELL PEOPLE ALL THE TIME THAT I'M A HOPELESS ROMANTIC.
Geneva: when it comes to music what legacy do you want to leave behind?
Jeb Bush: I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE LIKE 2 PAC AND BIGGIE LEFT THE BEST LEGACY OF MUSIC EVER BUT FOR MY GENERATION I RATHER BE IN THE BACKGROUND I'M NOT A IN FOREFRONT EVEN AS A LOCAL ARTIST I'M THE UNDERDOG AND UNDERRATED SO I GUESS I WANT TO KEEP THAT TITLE BECAUSE IT FITS ME SO WELL
Geneva; Thanks again so much for this time, please let the readers know where to find you! Also is there anything you would like to add before we go?

TRIXX - MUSIC BUSINESS MAN!
Trixx The Man of BusinessTrixx: I'm doing great! Sittin here wit my drink in my cup, enjoying life!! lol..
Geneva: Thanks so much for agreeing to this interview today! How are you doing?
Trixx: They call me "Trixx" or "The Man Wit 2 X's" from Chesapeake, VA.. 7 cities STAND UP!!! I'm known for many things but most know me from my music and my radio show.. My life's pretty interesting, I probably should right a book on my life on the real...
Geneva: Now For those who don't know you, and need to be introduced can you introduce yoursef?
Geneva: Now I understand that you were born in Hawaii but you were raised in Virginia is that correct?
Trixx: LOL.. Hawaii o boy! My father was in the Air Force stationed in Honolulu, HI, and my parents ended up having me over there.. Don't get it twisted tho my parents are Norfolk, VA bred all day, Booker T. Washington, Youngs Park finest!! lol.. It's definitely in my blood! Moved from Hawaii when I was four and been in VA ever since!! This place has turned me out.. Literally! j/kTrixx: Yeah it caught me around the age of seven.. It was just something about beats with lyrics flowing over top of them that really intrigued me I guess.. And around this time some friends and I began trying to rhyme, plus one of my friends' cousin was a close friend of Missy Elliot so that really inspired and motivated us to do music. There were alot of other contributing factors but those were the main two..
Geneva: I understand that you caught the music bug at an early age. What was it about music that influenced you?
Trixx: *takes deep breath and chuckles* Well I really don't want to get too deep into this topic, so I'm just going to say that.. Everything changes over a time.. You just gotta make adjustments and try to make it do what it do, so to speak.. Umm.. Is that acceptable? lol
Geneva: Now Growing up in the 90's and comparing to music today what is the major differences you notice?
Trixx: Well, I became a male gigolo at the age of two... lol. Naw I'm just messin around.. My name was originally "Matrixx" but every time me and my homeboys would freestyle they would call me "Trixx", because it was shorter and easier to say.. I like how it sounded so I cut off the "M" and the "A".. 'The Man Wit 2 X's' part came from a Delta from Norfolk State University.. Shoutout to her, where ever she is! I forgot her name too.. smh.. Oops my bad. lol
Geneva: Now "Trixx" is a nickname how did that come about?
Trixx: Good question! In one song I heard Nas say, "There's nothing new under sun.. It's not what you do but how its done.." or something along those lines.. So with that being said, all I can do is be as creative as I possibly can be; by incorporating my life struggles and great literary elements into one powerful musical force of my personal expression..
Geneva: What do you bring to the music game that is different from any other artist?
Trixx: Yes, I've just discovered a new love of my life called, "RADIO"! lol. I'm an on air personality for a college radio station out here in Norfolk, VA.. HOT91.1FM WNSB (Norfolk State University) and I've been on air now for about a year and some change.. I'm also a promoter, host, video editor/director, studio engineer, and whatever you else you need me to be!
Geneva: Now your not limited on talent I understand your more then an artist, can you tell us what other areas of expertise you have?
Trixx: I'm a veteran.. I'ma kill this and I gotta give the people what they want!!
Geneva: Now when your in the studio or in the booth what goes through your mind?
Trixx: Basically, that sounds just about right. Because no matter how good your music is.. If your business, paperwork, etc.. isn't right and you aren't networking with the proper people then you are just wasting time, energy, and most of all money. I've been blessed to meet some great connects and learned a lot from some knowledgeable people I came in contact with. And now I'm finally going to put them to use!
Geneva: Many artist say that "The Business is filled with artist but it's the ones who knock down doors that get heard." Do you think that's an accurate description of the music game?
Trixx: Take it seriously.. Study your craft and always do your homework. But most of all, learn the BUSINESS as early as you can so you don't let precious years slip pass you.. Music isn't everything but it is.. Food for thought.
Geneva: What advice would you give an upcoming or young artist who wants to be in the music game?
Trixx: The business aspect side of it. Because I've heard plenty of great songs from local artists but they don't know how to get their official paperwork and documents together. Oh yea.. Stop trying to rap like Lil Wayne and sing like Drake.. Be yourself! I feel its okay to take a few things from your favorite artists but not their whole swag.. Where's the creativity and originality?
Geneva: What do you think is the biggest challenge is for artist today?
Trixx: Mass Communications is my major at NSU.. I felt mass comm would help me network with people that I need to help benefit my rap career. So I reached out to upperclassmen through Facebook to learn more about the field I was studying and what I could do with it..Soon after, I heard about job openings at the radio station so I auditioned.. It took me two or three rejections before I was finally accepted.. I'm the first ever in HOT91 history to go on from 2am-6am and I guess you can say I'm part of the reason we became a 24-hour station with personalities on at all times of the day.. My show comes on every weekend from 2am-6am, called "The Let Out".. When the club let out people hit me up and tell all about their crazy night!! And yes they do be CRAZY!!! lol. Tune in!!! [http://www.nsu.edu/wnsb or http://www.hot91online.com]
Geneva: Now your also a radio personality for HOT 91 FM, how did you get into that?
Trixx: Do your homework! Point blank period!
Geneva: When it comes to the business what is the best advice you would give to anyone?
Trixx: Underrated.. Because my whole life I've been overlooked in whatever I participated in..
Geneva: If you could describe yourself in one word what would it be and why?
Trixx: I like to go to the club and have a good time ya dig..I usually meet some new friends who throw another "X" on the end of my name! lol. Shoutout to all the lovely ladies out there! Stay sexy and keep the heels on!
Geneva: What does Trixx do to relax and calm down after a busy day or week?
Trixx: STARDOM!!! Well I hope because I've really based my life around my music and I'm prepared to take on this rough, epic journey.. I feel with all the resources I have now, I'm capable of reaching my desired destiny.
Geneva: what is the next level for you?
Trixx: Ten years from now.. I see myself with multiple platinum albums sold and possibly entering TV and Film industry. I want to expand my name and face as far as I can! And eventually, put out other talented acts signed to me..
Geneva: When it comes to the future in the business where do you see yourself in say 10 years from now?
Trixx: Plenty of great music! I have tons of songs that are waiting to be released when the time is right. Listen out for me making feature appearances on other local artists songs and me hosting a few mixtapes as well.. But right now, its all about my single, "Drink In Ya Cup" that I'm pushing. The single is already out, but the song is a feature track on my upcoming mixtape, called "The Lion's Den". I haven't released a CD in a couple years and I feel the wait is finally over.. Stay tuned!
Geneva: What upcoming projects can we expect from you?
Trixx: Wow.. That's a long list right there! lol.. I'ma try to list everyone that I've worked with that I can.. Artists: AK.J, Peat, FP, Bre-Eies, Blizz, A.Byrd, Blitz, Eardrumz, N.Kage, A.Tillz, The Letter A, Travis, and umm, many others!! Producers: Eardrumz, FP, Suwaside Ent., JB Rye, Mikhail White (OTWP), G-Mac, M.Rell, Blitz, and other hot producers that send me tracks.. Keep da heat coming!! But I would like to work with Timbaland, Swizz Beats, Pharell, Kanye West.... For real fo real, I want to work with anybody that's capable of producing great music!
Geneva: Who have you worked with so far, and inspire to work with in the future?
Trixx: Actually, this song was created as a class project for the producer, Bayce Beatz.. He called me up, told me to come to the studio on campus because he had some beats that he needed an artist to spit on. When I arrived, he told me it was a club type track then played the beat. After that it was a wrap! I didn't get to finish song at the time, so I came back to the studio about 12 o'clock later on that night and completed it.. He mixed it and mastered it and put the icing on the cake. That was early '08 too!! lol.. But hey, somethings just take a little more time before it catches fire.
Geneva: "Drink in ya Cup " how did that track come about?
Trixx: Signing your name to something you have no idea what you're signing! lol.. Get a lawyer to look over your documents!
Geneva: What do you think is the biggest mistake made by artist in the game today?
Geneva: if you could collaborate with any artist past or present who would be and why?
Geneva: Thanks again for your time, is there anything you would like to say to your fans, supporters before we go? Also don't forget to tell us where to find you!Trixx: Anybody that's willing to work with me, honestly.. But if I had to pick somebody it would be Eminem! To me, Em is the best lyricist and the hottest rapper ever.. His bars and punchlines are crazy and he also makes those songs that play with your emotions.. So, for someone to be able to do something like that they have to be extremely talented. I'm pretty sure many people would agree with me on this selection.
Geneva: What is the one thing you want to people to understand about you?
Trixx: I'm a full-time student and I'm constantly learning something new everyday! Knowledge is power.. Seek the power!
Trixx: "Drink In Ya Cup" coming to a radio station near you!! Request it!!! I'm always on the internet, find me!! http://www.twitter.com/
