MEDICAL TEAMS INTERNATIONAL : RESPOND TO SAVE LIVES IN JAPAN & LIBYA

MEDIA ALERT
Medical Teams International responds to save lives in Japan and Libya

(PORTLAND, Ore., March 14, 2011)—Medical Teams International has been in touch with its partners to see how they can best help following last week’s devastating 8.9 earthquake in Japan. At the same time, the agency continues its lifesaving efforts in Libya.

JAPAN
Medical Teams International is accepting donations for Japan to support local Christian partners providing emergency relief activities. The three partners they are in contact with are: Japan International Food for the Hungry; Friends with the Voiceless and Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. All three partners are conducting assessments, working directly with churches in the area. The resources raised will be used to provide food, water, blankets and pastoral care to victims who have lost everything. Donate at www.medicalteams.org/Japan.

LIBYA
Medical Teams International continues to raise funds for its Libya response in partnership with the Libyan-American communities around the country. A team of doctors which Medical Teams International sent to Bengazhi to care for those in need, just crossed over into Egypt and will be returning to the U.S. this week.  Medicines and medical supplies are still needed throughout Libya; the agency is working to send future shipments of supplies. www.medicalteams.org

Medical Teams International is a Christian global health organization working to demonstrate the love of Christ to people affected by disaster, conflict and poverty around the world.  Since 1979, we have sent more than 2,100 volunteer teams and shipped more than $1.4 billion in lifesaving medicines and medical supplies to care for 25 million people in 100 countries. Each year, more than 2,000 volunteers contribute their time to care for those whom Jesus called “the least of these” in our world today.
